Tacit for iPhone

Getting started

Tacit is for people who cannot rely on speech. Type or tap what you need to say, then either show it full-screen to the person in front of you or have your phone speak it aloud.

• The card at the top of Home opens the big screen. Type, then put the keyboard away and the words grow to fill the display.
• Contexts hold phrases for a place — a restaurant, a pharmacy, a taxi. Tap one, tap a phrase.
• Quick emoji is the row along the bottom of Home, for the things a gesture cannot say: water, a charger, the nearest cash machine.
• My Card holds your name, conditions, allergies, medications and emergency contacts, to hold up without typing anything.
• Translate shows the same sentence in another language, large enough to read across a counter.

Common questions

The app is asking me to subscribe again. Tap Restore purchases on the subscription screen. That re-checks your Apple Account and brings back a subscription bought on any device signed in to the same Apple ID. If it still doesn't appear, email us.

I want to change or cancel my subscription. Go to Settings › Tacit Pro › Manage subscription, which opens Apple's own subscription screen. You can switch between monthly and yearly, see the renewal date, or cancel there. Cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep access until the period ends.

The free trial — when am I charged? Not during the trial. The subscription begins when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. The exact price and dates are shown on the subscription screen before you confirm anything.

Speech sounds robotic. Go to Settings › Speech › Voice and try another. Voices marked Premium or Enhanced sound best; some need a one-time download from iOS Settings › Accessibility › Spoken Content › Voices.

Translation isn't offering the language I need. Some languages need a download the first time. Open the options button on the Translate screen to see which are ready offline and to fetch a language pack.

Rewording doesn't work. On iPhone 15 Pro and newer the rewrite runs on the device. Everywhere else it needs a connection. Without one, Tacit falls back to a built-in set of phrases so you are never left with nothing.

I want to start over. Settings › Reset puts contexts, phrases, quick emoji, speaking speed, voice and tap action back to how they were. It asks first whether to keep or delete the phrases you saved. Your name and photo are never touched.

Accessibility

Tacit supports VoiceOver, Dynamic Type at every size, Reduce Motion and Increase Contrast. If something is hard to use with the settings you rely on, please tell us — that is a bug, and we will treat it as one.

Your privacy

Your saved phrases, your name and photo, and everything on My Card stay on your phone. The full detail, including the one thing we do keep, is on the privacy page.
