Tacit never sends anything that identifies you — not your name, not your card, not your saved phrases. On phones that can't run the AI locally, the sentence you're asking it to rewrite or translate is sent to be processed and is not retained by anyone — not by us, and not by the company whose model does the work. There is no account, no analytics, no ads, and nothing is ever sold. This page explains exactly where the line falls.

What never leaves your phone

All of this is stored on your device and nowhere else. There is no account to create and no server copy of any of it.

What is sent, and when

Three features can use AI. Where your iPhone can run that AI itself, it does, and nothing leaves the phone. Where it can't, the text is sent to our relay and on to our model provider to be processed.

Being honest about how often that happens: running the AI on the device needs Apple Intelligence, which requires iPhone 15 Pro or newer. On-device translation needs a language pack you have downloaded. So for many people, on many phones, the sent path is the normal one — not a rare exception. We'd rather say that plainly than imply otherwise.

What's sent is the text itself and nothing attached to you — no name, no email, no contacts, no card, no saved phrases. We do not store the text of anything you send, and neither does the company whose model rewrites it. Our model provider is Groq, and Tacit runs with Zero Data Retention switched on across its account: your words are processed to produce an answer and then discarded, rather than being logged or held for any period. Groq does not use them to train any model. The relay that carries the request is hosted on Supabase and keeps no copy of the text either.

The one thing we do keep

To stop the relay being abused — it is open to the internet — each install generates a random identifier the first time it is used, and our database stores that identifier alongside a count of how many requests it has made today. There is a daily cap, and this is how it is counted.

That identifier is a random number. It is not your name, your email, your Apple ID or your device's ID, it is not shared with anyone, and it cannot be used to find out who you are. Delete the app and it is gone; reinstalling makes a new one. The text of your requests is not stored against it — only the count.

Subscriptions

If you buy Tacit Pro, the payment is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card, your billing address or your Apple ID. We use RevenueCat to tell whether a subscription is active, which works from an anonymous ID and Apple's purchase receipt — nothing that identifies you personally.

Tacit is a paid app: a subscription, or its 7-day free trial, is what unlocks it. Which plan you are on changes nothing on this page — monthly and yearly behave identically, and nothing described here depends on whether you have paid.

The daily line on the home screen

When the app opens, it fetches the short daily line shown under the greeting from our database. It is a plain download: nothing about you is sent with it, and there is no record of who asked. As with any request over the internet, the server briefly sees the connection it came from. If there is no connection, the app shows the line it already had.

If you join the email list on this website

If you enter your email on this site to be notified when Tacit ships, that email address is the only thing stored — sent directly to our database with nothing else attached. It is used for exactly one thing: telling you when the app is available. It is never sold, shared, or used for anything else. Ask to be removed at any time and it will be deleted.

What we don't do

Your choices, and deleting everything

Because there is no account, everything the app holds about you is on your phone, and you control it directly:

If you are in the UK, the EU or a US state with its own privacy law, the rights those laws give you — to see what is held about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, and to object to its use — apply here. In practice there is very little to exercise them against, because we hold no personal data about app users at all.

Children's privacy

Tacit is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. Since the app collects nothing that identifies a person in the first place, there is nothing to knowingly hold about a child either.

Changes to this policy

If anything here changes — most likely because a new feature adds another place data can go — this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above will change with it. We won't quietly narrow what this page promises.
